Harvest Festival

During the week commencing 15th October, we will be celebrating Harvest Festival within school.
This year we will be asking the children to think of others who are perhaps less fortunate than us. This year we would like to help the Daily Bread Food Larder (CARE) who hand out emergency food parcels to local people experiencing difficulties in finding money to purchase food.
We would be most grateful if you could support us in collecting tinned and dried foods and toiletries. There will be a central collection point in the school reception area from Monday 16th October until 9am on Thursday 18th October.
Let me take this opportunity to say “Thank you” in anticipation of your response in helping others within our community.

Signhills Academy Notices

Below are some notices relating to the start of the year.  We will continue to use the online news posts and playground notice boards to share information and news; I would urge you all to use these to stay up to date.  The Signhills News site can be found at signhillsblog.wordpress .com (there is also a link on the school website) and you can ‘follow’ the site to have updates automatically sent to an email address or, if you are a Twitter user, you can follow us at @signhillsblog.  We will also continue to use paper letters and texts as appropriate.

Start of the Day

A number of children have been arriving at school very early.  Please remember that, whilst the gates are open, the children are not supervised by the staff team until 8:45am when the doors are opened for the start of the day.  If your child needs to leave the house considerably earlier than that, we operate a Breakfast Club – in the New Hall – from 8:00am every morning.  This can be accessed as-and-when, with no need to pre-book.  Attendance is £1 per day.

Jeans for Genes – Friday 21st September

Please let your children wear their jeans to school with their uniform top to raise money and awareness for the thousands of children living with genetic disorders.  Please send a £1 donation.  More information can be found at

Xander and The Peace Pirates Performance

We are very excited to have booked a band to perform at Signhills Academy on the evening of Tuesday 25th September from 6:30pm onwards. The band are ‘Xander and the Peace Pirates’ and, in June this year, they were the subject of a BBC3 documentary series ‘Amazing Humans’ with the focus on lead singer, guitarist and songwriter, Keith Xander, who was born with only half a right arm. You can use the following link to watch the BBC3 clip and find out more about the band:

The band’s music is a combination of soul, blues and rock, and they have shared space onstage with many well-known performers such as Bon Jovi, Manfred Mann and Joe Bonamassa. Our pupils will have the opportunity to watch the band perform during the school day and be involved in a Q & A session with the band members, but we would like to offer you all the chance to see the band perform. To support with the cost, tickets for the evening performance are priced at £9 per adult and £4 per child. All tickets must be booked via the link below.

This is a fantastic opportunity for both the school and the community and we hope you will join us on the evening to see this inspirational group perform.
