November Newsletter

We hope you have all had a nice couple of weeks and enjoyed any Halloween or Bonfire Night festivities. As always, the run-up to Christmas will fly by. Below are some key events for this term.

Children in Need – Friday 16th November
On the Friday, the children are invited to come in non-uniform, the spottier the better, for Children in Need and bring a £1 donation.

Non-uniform Day – Friday 30th November
To support the Christmas Fair, the children are allowed to wear non-uniform and bring chocolate for the creatively-named ‘Chocolate Tombola’.

Operation Christmas Child (Shoeboxes) – Wednesday 28th November
Many thanks to those of you who have already filled shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. Please ensure that any shoeboxes are brought into school by Wednesday 28th November.

Your Child and the Internet….the bits you might not know– Wednesday 5th December at 6pm

As part of our e-Safety provision, we have arranged for a day of workshops and training, led by Alan McKenzie of ‘e-safety adviser’. The day will comprise of training for staff, workshops for pupils, and an information session – with opportunities to ask questions – for parents and governors. We would therefore like to invite you to a session on Wednesday 5th December at 6.00pm in Signhills Junior Hall.

The session will cover ‘awareness of the child protection risks related to e-safety, tailored to a home environment. This is a 60-minute session for parents and guardians looking into e-safety issues and risks to children whilst using digital technology. This is also an opportunity for parents to ask for advice and guidance about any related issues.’

Or to put it another way, Alan will talk to you in everyday-language about some of the current trends and risks for children using the internet, be it by tablet, X-Box, PlayStation, Switch, mobile phone… Parents who attended Alan’s sessions in previous years were very positive about the sessions.

Christmas Fair – Friday 7th December
The Christmas Fair will take place on Friday 77h December between 2.45pm and 3.45pm. As in previous years, most stalls will be replicated in both the Infants and Juniors. Junior children will be allowed to attend the junior fair unsupervised from 2.45pm to 3.15pm, when they will be dismissed. If you wish to meet your child, please arrange a place with them as they will not be in their classroom when the doors open. As always, the fair will be extremely busy. Please do not bring pushchairs if possible. Any donations for the Chocolate Tombola or Wine Tombola will be gratefully received.

Christmas Jumper Day – Friday 14th December
It is also ‘Christmas Jumper Day’ which will really get us in the Christmas spirit. A donation will be made to the Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day appeal from the Christmas Fair.

Christmas Dinner- Tuesday 18th December
On Tuesday 18th December we will be having our Christmas Dinner. A slip will be sent out soon for those children who do not normally have a school meal but would like to have one on that day.

Cinema Visit – Friday 21st December
We will be visiting the cinema on the morning of the last day of term. More details, with permission slips, will be sent when we know which films are available to us.

End of Term – Friday 21st December
As we have done previously, we are offering parents the option to collect their children (or them making their own way home) at 2.00pm on the Friday that we break up. A letter will be issued nearer the time. As has happened previously, some families have taken advantage of this opportunity, whilst other children have stayed to the end of the school day, completing festive activities and playing games.

On behalf of the team can I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you all again when Spring Term 2019 commences on Tuesday 8th January.

If you require any further information about any of the above, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
