North East Lincolnshire Council is launching a competition to find new artwork to promote recycling on its new bin lorries.
Twelve new bin lorries for collecting household waste will be hitting the streets in spring 2020. The existing vehicles are several years old and need replacing.
Winners will have their designs displayed on the new lorries and they will each receive a replica model of the lorry.
The artwork competition is open to people of all ages and is divided into three age categories:
• Under 11 years old
• 11 to 17 years old
• 18 and over (including community groups).
There’s also a name the bin lorry competition.

On behalf of Grimsby Islamic Cultural Centre, I would like to invite you to our “Visit My Mosque 2019” event which will take place on Sunday 3rd March 2019.
Our Mosque is taking part in this national initiative which is taking place in almost all Mosques in the UK.
In the spirit of friendship and dialogue, we hope to give members of our local community an engaging insight into the life of the Mosque and to promote greater understanding of the true Islam.
The event will be held on Sunday 3rd March 2019 between 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm in Grimsby Mosque. We very much hope you and also members of your family will be able to join us on the day.
The program contains Islamic awareness and cultural activities in addition to a tour round the Mosque. This will be followed by authentic finger food and light refreshments.

Joanne Townell and Joshua England are local musicians/music teachers who will be running a music group for school-age string players from beginner level to Grade 4 at THE NEW HALL from January 2019!
We would like to invite parents of string players in North East Lincolnshire to the music morning where Jo, Josh and Francesca White’s Signhills string students will perform.
Jo and Josh will be available afterwards to discuss the project over refreshments.

We are very excited to have booked a band to perform at Signhills Academy on the evening of Tuesday 25th September from 6:30pm onwards. The band are ‘Xander and the Peace Pirates’ and, in June this year, they were the subject of a BBC3 documentary series ‘Amazing Humans’ with the focus on lead singer, guitarist and songwriter, Keith Xander, who was born with only half a right arm. The band’s music is a combination of soul, blues and rock, and they have shared space onstage with many well-known performers such as Bon Jovi, Manfred Mann and Joe Bonamassa. Our pupils will have the opportunity to watch the band perform during the school day and be involved in a Q & A session with the band members, but we would like to offer you all the chance to see the band perform. To support with the cost, tickets for the evening performance are priced at £9 per adult and £4 per child. All tickets must be booked via the link below.

At Premier we’re pleased to announce that team GB’s Olympic Gold winning medalist Crista Cullen will be attending Grimsby Hockey Clubs training session on Saturday 12th May 2018 to inspire the children and assist with the training session delivered by Premier Sport Coaches.
Crista made her senior international debut for England in 2003. She was part of the Great Britain squad which won Bronze at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, as well as the England squad that won Bronze at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. Crista also joined the Great Britain team for the 2016 Rio Olympics and played an instrumental
part in a team that went unbeaten throughout the tournament, eventually winning an Olympic gold medal!
To take part in this fantastic opportunity come down to the Grimsby Institute Astroturf, Nuns Corner, Grimsby, DN34 5BQ from 9:00am to 10:00am. The session cost is £2.50, hockey sticks are provided, but please wear shin pads.

This will be a relaxed and inclusive workshop where all voices are welcome.
We have lots of exciting things planned!
|· We will work on a variety of warm-ups and songs with an emphasis on enjoyment, well-being and engaging everyone in using their voice to the best of their individual ability.
· The workshop is open to anyone over the age of 16.
· Places cost just £10 per person and this fee includes resources and refreshments.
· Booking is essential so please add your name to the sign-up sheet or let me know if you wish to attend.
· Registration will be at 9:30 am and the workshop will begin promptly at 10:00 am.
· At 12:45 pm, there will be an opportunity to invite your friends and families to come along and listen to what you have been doing.

Cleethorpes Cricket club is starting their Junior Coaching nights again on a Friday evening. Boys and girls all welcome and no previous cricket experience needed. Times for theses sessions will be 6 pm for 5-8 years and 6:45pm for 9-11 years at a cost of £5 registration and £2 training subs.
All of Year 4 children have taken part in the One Million Kids initiative with Joe Wicks’ live workout.
We have finished the end of out Viking Topic with a jam packed day. We have tasted Viking food, made Viking ruin clay pots and created Viking inspired mosaics. The children were very brave to try unfamiliar food and surprised themselves.

Some year 6 boys have been involved in a ten week singing project with Jacqui and Adam. They practised a collection of songs which they had the opportunity to perform for their families. It was a superb performance. We hope to set up an after school singing group for boys in general in the near future. Watch this space!

Cleethorpes Rock is a Signhills Academy Community Choir run by Miss Reed, from which all proceeds go to charity. It is open to anyone 16+ years, and is held in the main hall at Signhills Academy every Thursday evening, 7.00pm-8.30pm. Sessions commence on Thursday 24th September, and we are always welcoming new starters!
On Friday 25th September we invite children to dress up as one of their favourite Roald Dahl characters, to help them get into the spirit as we celebrate his stories.
The school day will be centred on Roald Dahl narratives and may include activities such as: story writing, book reviews, poetry and performance. It will be a fun-filled day to appreciate and promote Roald Dahl Literature.
We hope children will enjoy the Dahlicious Dress Up Day!
On Friday 18th September we invite the children to wear their jeans to school (with normal school t-shirts/sweatshirts please)! This is in support of Jeans for Genes Day which supports children and families affected by genetic disorders. If you wish to also make a donation, please send your child with £1 to their class teacher.

On Friday 20th March, Ebony in year 4 will have her hair cut off in an assembly here at Signhills in aid of the Little Princess Trust.
The Little Princess Trust was set up in memory of Hannah Tarplee, a little girl from Hereford who sadly lost her short battle with cancer in June 2005. The charity was set up by Hannah’s parents after she died to provide real hair wigs to children suffering hair loss.

We have now sold all of our 540 red noses! Thank you to everyone that has donated, we hope you got the nose you wanted! Don’t forget we’re dressing in red and wearing a ‘funny face’ on the 13th.
As one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events, Red Nose Day brings the entire nation together to do something funny for money. To do our bit and raise money the children are encouraged to dress in red and wear a ‘funny face’. We are asking for a donation of £1 from all children who are participating.
We will also be using Red Nose Day as a teaching opportunity so that our students can learn about the issues children across the world face, and how the money we raise can help them.
Red Noses will be available for the children to buy in school from tomorrow.
